Iterative design of advanced and collaborative robotics systems in furniture machining and assembly processes through simulation and the digital twin.
The manufacturing environments for furniture production are dominated by partially automated flexible manufacturing cells focused on specific tasks within the production cycle. Through the specialization of work cells, machinery specific to the furniture sector has evolved in a segmented manner with two distinct trends. On one hand, there is machinery designed for large batch production with high automation levels, prepared for the integration of robotic equipment. On the other hand, there is more flexible machinery with lower performance but capable of handling a greater variety of products. In this work environment, where operations are manually conducted by operators, the penetration of robotic systems is limited due to the challenge of addressing the full spectrum of tasks.
The ROWOOD project aims to investigate simulation systems for robotized machining and furniture assembly cells through the development of Digital Twins. Starting with the virtual recreation of manufacturing cells, the project begins with the development of a virtual model to iteratively validate the optimal integration of robotic equipment into furniture assembly processes. With the validated design and the reconditioned cell, the project will conclude with the integration of sensorized elements into the installation in communication with the virtual model, creating an emulation environment capable of analyzing the performance of the process following the integration of collaborative and industrial robotic technology.
The results of the ROWOOD project will be applied to the digitization and process improvement in the value chain in the production of habitat equipment:
